Certified Peer Support Specialist


A Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) is an individual with lived or living experience with a mental health and/or substance use condition. As defined by SAMHSA, this means having personal knowledge gained through direct life experience. At Cultivate Support Services LLC, Peer Support Specialists use this experience to provide compassionate, nonclinical, community-based services, including advocacy, resource navigation, mentoring, group facilitation, and goal setting, all supporting long-term recovery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Offer personalized coaching and support to individuals in recovery
  • Assist clients in developing life skills and using therapeutic coping strategies
  • Educate and guide clients in accessing community resources
  • Help build formal and informal support systems
  • Provide crisis support and advocacy to reduce stigma
  • Collaborate with providers, family members, and support networks
  • Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and compliance with ethical guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and required trainings
  • Document sessions accurately and submit notes within 3 days in the EHR system

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Certification: Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) – current, valid, and unrestricted
  • Licensure: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Other Requirements: CPR/First Aid certification, and other mandatory trainings (see below)

Training Requirements

Required trainings include but are not limited to:

  • First Aid / CPR
  • Crisis Intervention
  • HIPAA / Client Rights
  • Cultural Competency
  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • WRAP (Wellness and Recovery Action Plan)
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Fraud, Abuse, and Waste Prevention
  • Peer Support Services (minimum of 3 hours)
  • Documentation Training (minimum of 1 hour)
    Note: If previously completed, documentation of certification is required. Trainings older than one year may need to be retaken.

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Flexible schedule based on client needs
  • Services may be provided in the client’s home or community settings
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., stand, walk, and drive a motor vehicle
  • Must be physically able to perform CPR and intervention duties

Compensation

  • $22 per billable hour, contingent upon accurate and timely documentation in the EHR system.

Outpatient Therapist


Job Summary

The Outpatient Therapist is a licensed mental health professional responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals facing psychological, emotional, or behavioral challenges. They deliver therapeutic services to individuals, families, and groups in a variety of settings. In addition to providing therapy, the Outpatient Therapist serves as a clinical expert within the agency, supporting staff, ensuring compliance, and maintaining high standards of care.


What You’ll Do

As an Outpatient Therapist, you will complete comprehensive clinical assessments within 3 days of intake receipt, support other staff clinically, offer training as needed, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations. You will conduct therapy sessions in-person, virtually, or via telephone, with a minimum requirement of 5 billable contacts per week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document comprehensive clinical assessments
  • Complete and maintain Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) and 90-day reviews
  • Accurately document services and resolve client grievances
  • Collaborate with professionals and team members to provide integrated care
  • Deliver crisis intervention and support de-escalation techniques as needed
  • Provide clinical guidance and staff training when appropriate
  • Stay current on regulatory changes impacting client care and inform leadership

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong clinical diagnostic skills (including DSM-5) and use of evidence-based practices
  • Effective rapport-building and boundary-setting with clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Skilled in crisis management and intervention
  • Clear, concise, and goal-oriented documentation
  • Understanding of HIPAA and client confidentiality requirements

Definition

Outpatient Therapist refers to a licensed professional qualified by the state of North Carolina, such as:

  • LCSW / LCSWA
  • LCMHC / LCMHCA
  • LPA / LP / LMFT / LMFTA
  • LCAS / LCASA

Additionally, candidates must have:

  • A Master’s degree in a human services field
  • One year of post-graduate experience with the population served (mental health, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse)

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Services may be rendered in person, virtually, or by phone
  • Flexible hours as long as deadlines are consistently met
  • Therapy may take place in a client’s home or other community settings
  • Must be physically capable of performing CPR and emergency interventions

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid NC Driver’s License
  • Current, unrestricted clinical license (as listed above)
  • Must be credentialed with Medicaid, or be willing to be credentialed with the agency’s support
  • Active CAQH profile and NPI number
  • Proof of malpractice insurance required
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Compensation

  • $60 per billable contact
  • Minimum requirement of 5 billable contacts per week
